IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
The Mad March Pukka 20 & 10 is now full. We have reached our safety limit and we cannot take any further entries. The online entry systems will not accept further entries and I'm afraid I will have to return postal entries in the SAE
What's great about the races?
Two road races, 10 and 20 miles, very flat on quiet country roads - ideal for fast times, first-timers over the distance or those preparing for the big spring marathons

Both courses officially measured, with accurate markers every mile, and both electronically timed.
Drinks every 3 miles.
Clock car and escort cyclists for lead runners.
Decent training T shirt, goody bag and medal for every finisher. Prizes for first three men and women and for first and second male and female in 40's, 50's and 60+ for each race.
When and where are the races?
Both races on 1 st March (approx 6 weeks before London Marathon).
20 mile race starts at 10.15am.
10 mile race starts at 10.30am
Races start and finish at Burton Recreation Ground, Burton, near Christchurch, Dorset. Nearest postcode is BH23 7LE or see map here
How do I enter?
Race entries are made online. You can use either:
Active Network - open to all Active Registration
or
Runners World - requires you to be a subsriber to Runners World magazine Runners World
If you're unable to register online, we can accept a small number of postal entries. For the application form, click here
So what's the route?
Both races follow the same 10 mile route, the ten-milers cover one lap, the twenty-milers do two laps.
Those doing the 20 mile race will take a short 200m ‘out and back' loop at the start of the second lap for drinks and for marshals to make a lap count.

What's with the name: Mad March Pukka?

The name ‘Mad March Pukka' might be new, but the race is a well-loved one, the Mad March Hare. When the old race organiser took a well-earned break, Zoom Tri Club stepped in to save this rare pre-London 20 miler. We wanted to keep the tradition of the race but also to introduce a new 10 mile option. So the name is a part of the old and a part of the new, our club sponsor, Pukka Pads.

“Run, Forrest, run”, “118 118”, “don't worry, Fang's only playing” - anyone who runs week-in week-out will know there isn't a load of support for sport out there. Pukka Pads are a rare nugget - they've been fantastic, backing kids, helping with kit and providing us with the funds to put on this race (see their website for details http://www.pukka-pads.co.uk/ ). So here's the score: next time you're buying stationery please help return the respect Pukka Pads have given us runners. |
Our thanks also go to Up & Running
Any special notes of caution?
Health: running 10 or 20 miles is a challenge and we applaud every runner who takes on the challenge. However, it is your responsibility to ensure you are sufficiently fit and healthy to achieve the task safely.
Parking: Only limited parking available at the recreation ground. On arrival in Burton, please use the parking facilities provided. Please note that there will be NO WAITING CONES in Martins Hill Lane and others roads. Park on the side of the road along Salisbury Road.
Facilities: toilets are available at start/finish. However, there are only limited changing facilities and no showers - if the weather is poor, ensure you have suitable post-race clothing to stay warm and dry.
Roads: race surface is tarmac throughout (except for finish area on the recreation green). Although the roads are rural and quiet they remain open to traffic - remain cautious at all times.
Ringwood Road: this is a narrow road and can have fast traffic - runners must stay to the left and be in single file along the race stretch of Ringwood Road (marshals and signs will indicate this).
Cut-offs: the finish for both races will close 5 hours after the start of the 20 mile race. Runners who intend to do the 20 mile race must have started the 2 nd lap before 2 hours 15 minutes elapsed time - those behind that time, but within the 5 hours time limit, may complete the 10 mile race instead. In addition, a ‘broom car' will follow at the rear of the course and runners behind the following lapsed times will be asked to withdraw (there will be no marshals or refreshments after these times):
11 miles - 2:45 hours
12 miles - 3:00 hours
13 miles - 3:15 hours
14 miles - 3:30 hours
15 miles - 3:45 hours
16 miles - 4:00 hours
17 miles - 4:15 hours
18 miles - 4:30 hours
19 miles - 4:45 hours
Courtesy: Burton Parish council, Burton football club and the relevant police authorities support this event. They have kindly asked runners and supporters to:
Keep off the football pitch at Burton recreation green,
Use the toilets provided,
Avoid causing disruption (esp. with cars and noise) in Burton and the route villages.
